Destiny Fulfilled

Many of you know the story of how my own back pain brought me to visit the acupuncture clinic.? I was on the table one day when the notion came to me;? I wonder if this is something I can do?? When I discovered the educational requirements to become a licensed acupuncturist, I put the notion out of my mind.? There was no way on earth that I wanted to spend four years in a full-time graduate program.? After I made that decision, the topic of Chinese medicine came to me randomly, over and over and over again until I thought that maybe I was going crazy.? I finally decided to pay attention to this and, well the rest of the story is evident.

I recently came across a quote from the Shen Nong Ben Cao ~ The Divine Husbandman’s Classic of Materia Medica.? This is China’s oldest herbal text completed around the 2nd century A.D.? It contains detailed herbal information and many of the treatment protocols are still in use today.? The quote states,? “The highest form of medicine helps humans fulfill their destiny, the middle form helps nourish original nature, and the lowest form treats physical illness.”

I’m grateful that the acupuncturists who were treating me were practicing the highest form of medicine.? I also see a lot of signs that I’m practicing this with you.? I am in awe that Chinese medicine does so much more than treat physical illness.
